The most recent project for VolunQuest and Alaghom Naom, which is the partner foundation aiding Isla Mujeres primary schools, is to build a collection of english books for each of the public schools. The past few weeks we have reached out to the Isla Mujeres community and visitors and have been met with amazing support and donations.
Tiffany, a local business owner, explains here the importance of the project, ” efforts in the public school system is so important. With tourism being our major industry, it is so beneficial for the Isla locals to learn & speak English. Most businesses will pay employees a higher daily wage if they speak English. This is huge for families. Many locals support more than just themselves. It is not uncommon for the person with the best & highest paying job to support not only their husband/wife & children but their parents or siblings as well. Giving them the gift of English allows them so many more opportunities. Your small donation will make a big difference in our community & in the lives of each child’s families. Thank you so very much.”
The schools have been overwhelmed with the generosity of the Isla community as well. President of VolunQuest, Kristen Tywan, went to deliver the first batch of books to the schools and had this to say after, “Thank you to everyone that has donated English books so far to Heather Jones and Tiffany for the public primary primary schools here in Isla. When we brought the books to school this afternoon, all of the students, parents, teachers, and directors were completely ecstatic. If anyone else is interested in donating books and/or materials please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or check out our wish list on Amazon by the foundation’s name, Alaghom-Naom.”
But by far the students have showed the most enthusiasm. Here are pictures of their first looks at the new English books!
